Original stone finish (11)

This is one of a series of bosses whose distinctive carving style suggests that they were all carved by the same mason (see also No. 10 and 16). Adam and Eve both wear garments of animal skin, whilst Adam holds the infamous apple. The wonderfully honest portraiture suggests, by its depiction of slightly rustic features, that they might be studies of actual people alive at the time of carving. This is quite a small miniature, but one for which I have particular affection.
