Original stone finish (27) |
Standing majestically high above the city of Lincoln,
the cathedral houses some fabulous workmanship and anyone who
has not yet visited the cathedral should do so without further
delay. The bosses of the choir aisles of Lincoln Cathedral are really
superb. Although of an early date, the rendition of foliage on this boss
is not stylised, but quite life-like. The man is wincing as he receives
a blow to his helmet whilst pushing away the shield of his opponent. The
merman appears quite disinterested in the events. The carving style suggests
that the same mason carved Nos. 27, 28, 29 and 32. |
