This apparently simple foliage carving has a striking purity of line. The design is based on a single sprig of foliage which branches and loops, it is repeated four times and the almost geometric overall effect is very pleasing. This style of foliage carving appears to be universal in its application; add grapes and it becomes a vine, acorns and it is an oak.
